Tommy Paul enters the Cincinnati Open second-round matchup against Hubert Hurkacz with stronger recent form and a higher ranking, posting a 32-14 record in 2026 that includes a clay-court title in Houston and deep runs at multiple events. Hurkacz, ranked outside the top 60 after an extended absence, has shown mixed results upon return but defeated Paul in four sets at Wimbledon 2026. Their head-to-head sits at 3-2 for Paul across five prior meetings on varied surfaces, with the American holding a narrow edge in sets. Hard-court conditions at this Masters 1000 favor Paul's consistent baseline play and movement, though Hurkacz's serve can create problems in shorter encounters. Both players advanced through their opening matches without major injury concerns reported in official updates.
