Brandon Nakashima enters this Cincinnati Open semifinal on a strong North American hard-court run, having reached back-to-back Masters 1000 semifinals after a runner-up finish in Montreal and a three-set quarterfinal victory over Taylor Fritz. Frances Tiafoe, the 2024 Cincinnati finalist, advanced by defeating Lorenzo Musetti in a two-hour-plus quarterfinal that featured multiple match points. Tiafoe holds a 7-1 head-to-head edge, including a three-set win earlier this year in Acapulco, though Nakashima claimed their most recent prior encounter in Tokyo. Both players sit near career-high rankings around the top 20, with the winner guaranteed a top-12 spot and a place in the final. Nakashima benefits from a day of rest after his quarterfinal, while Tiafoe must manage fatigue on the outdoor hard courts ahead of the US Open.
