Brandon Nakashima enters the Cincinnati Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite, backed by a career-high ranking near No. 27 and a strong hard-court showing that included a runner-up finish in Montreal, where he won four straight matches before falling to Ben Shelton in the final. His 22-15 record in 2026 reflects consistent results against higher-ranked opponents on outdoor hard courts. Aleksandar Kovacevic, ranked No. 96, arrives after a three-set upset of Karen Khachanov in the opening round but carries an 11-18 seasonal mark and limited success against top-30 players. The pair met earlier in 2026 in Brisbane, with Nakashima prevailing. Both Americans are familiar with the Cincinnati hard-court conditions, though Nakashima’s superior recent form and head-to-head edge shape trader consensus around his advancement.
