Benjamin Bonzi enters the US Open first-round matchup against Alex Molcan with stronger recent hardcourt form, highlighted by a semifinal run at Winston-Salem where he secured four wins on the surface before falling to Ignacio Buse. Molcan, by contrast, has compiled a limited 2026 hardcourt record after focusing heavily on clay events, with his most recent ATP matches coming on that surface in late July at Kitzbuhel and Umag. Their first career meeting occurs on outdoor hard courts in New York, where Bonzi’s consistent recent activity and serve-return stability provide an edge in a match that could extend beyond three sets if Molcan finds early rhythm. Both players sit outside the top 80, underscoring the evenly matched but surface-dependent nature of the contest.
