Daniil Medvedev enters the Shanghai Rolex Masters quarterfinal against Tommy Paul with strong momentum on hard courts, having reached the last eight without dropping a set and posting a 17-5 career record at the event, including the 2019 title. The fifth seed defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-5 without facing a break point, extending a 12-2 run on the surface while boosting his ATP Finals qualification push. Paul, ranked around 14-18, advanced past Zizou Bergs 7-6(5), 6-4 after the Belgian’s earlier upset of Carlos Alcaraz, completing a sweep of Masters 1000 hard-court quarterfinal appearances. Medvedev leads the head-to-head 4-1, with his most recent win coming in straight sets at Indian Wells in 2025. Both players face high stakes for Turin qualification points in a matchup favoring Medvedev’s defensive baseline game and return consistency on the outdoor hard courts.
