Daniil Medvedev enters the Almaty Open quarterfinal as the top seed and defending champion on indoor hard courts, carrying strong recent hard-court form that includes a Hangzhou title, Shanghai semifinals, and a straight-sets victory over Sho Shimabukuro in the round of 16. The world No. 5 holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge against left-handed Terence Atmane, including a straight-sets win earlier in 2026. Atmane, ranked No. 98, has produced his best results of the week by outlasting Mattia Bellucci in three tiebreaks and defeating Rinky Hijikata, but faces a significant step up in class against a player who has won 12 of his last 14 matches overall. The matchup highlights Medvedev’s serve and baseline consistency on this surface against an opponent seeking his first win over a top-10 player.
