Tomas Machac enters the Cincinnati Open first-round matchup against Pablo Carreno Busta following a left-foot injury that sidelined the Czech for more than two months after the French Open, raising concerns about rust on outdoor hard courts where Machac holds a strong career record. Ranked around 58-62, Machac has compiled a 14-10 record in 2026 but lacks recent match play. Carreno Busta, ranked 66-71 and showing consistent form with a fourth-round run at Roland Garros, brings steady baseline play and experience that could test an underprepared opponent in their first career meeting. Close rankings and the hard-court setting keep the contest competitive, with trader sentiment reflecting uncertainty around Machac's fitness and readiness.
