Jiri Lehecka, the 18th seed ranked No. 19, enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against qualifier Toby Samuel (No. 110) due to his higher ranking, prior Grand Slam quarterfinal experience, and stronger recent hard-court results. Samuel, a 23-year-old Brit making his main-draw debut after three qualifying wins, produced a dominant straight-sets upset over Tomas Machac in round one but faces a steep step up in competition on outdoor hard courts. Lehecka advanced comfortably past Pablo Carreno Busta in his opener. With no prior head-to-head and Samuel riding momentum from his biggest career payday, trader consensus centers on Lehecka’s experience and consistency prevailing, though Samuel’s powerful serve and recent form introduce realistic upset potential in a best-of-five format.
