Karen Khachanov enters the Cincinnati Open first-round matchup as the clear favorite against Aleksandar Kovacevic, reflecting his superior ranking near No. 39 compared to Kovacevic’s position around No. 95. The Russian holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge from their 2024 Australian Open encounter on hard courts and brings greater consistency at Masters 1000 level, including recent participation in Montreal and prior clay-court events. Kovacevic, a right-hander with a career-high ranking of No. 54 earlier in 2026, has shown flashes such as his recent Indian Wells victory but faces a significant step up in opponent caliber on the hard-court swing. Both players are healthy with no reported withdrawals or scheduling issues affecting this hard-court encounter.
