Rafael Jódar enters his US Open main-draw debut as the clear favorite against lucky loser Yunchaokete Bu after Thanasi Kokkinakis withdrew injured hours before their first-round match on Court 17. The 19-year-old Spaniard, ranked No. 13 and seeded 12th, arrives with a 36-14 record in 2026 highlighted by a Washington final, Montreal semifinal, and strong hard-court results through Cincinnati. Bu, ranked No. 124 with a career-high of 64, advanced through qualifying but fell in the final round before gaining entry as a lucky loser; his recent ATP main-draw results remain limited, with most activity at Challenger level. The pair has no prior head-to-head, and rain has already pushed back the evening session on the outdoor hard courts. Jódar’s superior ranking, recent form, and experience against higher-level competition shape the wide implied probability gap reflected in trader pricing.
