Pierre-Hugues Herbert enters the Lyon Open first round on indoor hard courts as a slight favorite in trader pricing despite his No. 290 ranking, buoyed by two qualifying wins in three sets where he rallied from a set down against Jurij Rodionov and Maxim Mrva. The French veteran’s serve-volley game and home-crowd support align with the faster surface, where he holds a stronger recent record than Sebastian Baez. Baez, ranked No. 49, arrives with five losses in his prior six matches across hard-court events in Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu, reflecting a broader 2026 slump on non-clay surfaces. No prior head-to-head exists, leaving recent form, surface fit, and home advantage as the primary drivers behind the market’s modest edge for Herbert.
