Sebastian Gorzny, the 22-year-old American ranked around 782, faces 29-year-old Australian Marc Polmans (No. 362, career-high 116) in the Winston-Salem Open qualifying first round on outdoor hard courts. Polmans brings greater ATP-level experience and a stronger historical ranking despite a modest 0-1 singles record this season and limited main-tour activity, while Gorzny transitions from a strong college career with recent ITF exposure and benefits from playing on home soil. No prior head-to-head exists between the players, and the match pits Polmans' veteran consistency against Gorzny's youth and potential adaptation to professional hard-court demands. The outcome hinges on serve reliability and baseline exchanges typical of this surface in early qualifying rounds.
