Arthur Gea enters this US Open qualifying first-round matchup as the top seed and world No. 86 following his maiden ATP title on hard courts at Los Cabos in early August 2026, where he defeated top-20 opposition including Francisco Cerundolo en route to the crown. The 21-year-old Frenchman has posted an 8-4 record in 2026 with strong recent hard-court results and a career-high ranking of No. 82. Sumit Nagal, ranked No. 234 at age 29, returns to Grand Slam qualifying after a four-major absence, buoyed by a recent Challenger title on clay but holding a mixed 2026 record and limited hard-court success. The hard-court surface and Gea's momentum create a clear edge for the younger player in this opening-round encounter.
