Van Assche enters the Quebec City Challenger semifinal on hard courts holding a 2-0 head-to-head edge over Gaston from clay meetings earlier in 2026, including a straight-sets win in the Estoril semifinals. The Frenchman captured his maiden ATP title at Estoril in July, defeating higher-ranked opponents en route and climbing to a career-high ranking near No. 50, while Gaston sits lower in the standings with more limited recent success on any surface. Both players advanced through the draw to this all-French semifinal on the new Challenger 125 event, where Van Assche’s improved consistency and experience against top competition provide the clearest recent momentum shift ahead of their first hard-court matchup.
