Taylor Fritz enters this Cincinnati Open round-of-16 matchup as the clear favorite against Christopher O'Connell, backed by a 3-0 head-to-head record in straight sets and a substantial ranking gap (top-10 versus outside the top 100). Fritz arrives with strong recent hard-court form, including a Washington title and consistent wins through the draw after a first-round bye. O'Connell, a qualifier, has produced an unexpected run by defeating Kamil Majchrzak and Casper Ruud before a walkover against Joao Fonseca, yet faces significant barriers in experience, power, and consistency against elite opposition on this surface. Trader consensus reflects Fritz's superior baseline game, serve, and overall pedigree in Masters-level events.
