Arthur Fils enters the Cincinnati Open round of 16 against Alex de Minaur on the back of strong hard-court momentum, including a straight-sets win over Yannick Hanfmann and an upset of ninth-seeded Jiri Lehecka. The French player’s explosive baseline power and improved return game have produced solid recent results across Masters events. De Minaur, the higher-ranked Australian with superior consistency and return pressure, advanced after a first-round bye and gritty victories over Quentin Halys and Arthur Fery, though he has shown uneven form on the North American swing. Their earlier 2026 meeting went to de Minaur; this hard-court rematch highlights Fils’s upset potential against de Minaur’s experience and endurance in extended rallies.
