Grigor Dimitrov enters the 2026 US Open first round against Alexei Popyrin as the slight favorite on outdoor hard courts, reflecting trader consensus around a 64-67% implied win probability. Both players have endured challenging 2026 seasons marked by inconsistent results and fitness setbacks, with Dimitrov at 137 in the rankings after missing last year's event due to injury and Popyrin at 130 following a drop from top-20 form. Their head-to-head stands even at 2-2 on hard courts, though Dimitrov has shown steadier recent qualifying wins to reach the main draw while Popyrin has struggled with early exits and a retirement. Experience at Flushing Meadows, including Dimitrov's prior semifinal and quarterfinal runs, contrasts with Popyrin's power game that could extend rallies or force errors in longer sets.
