Luciano Darderi enters as the clear favorite against Dane Sweeny in this US Open third-round match on hard courts, holding the No. 22 ATP ranking and 21st seed position compared to Sweeny’s No. 123 standing. Darderi has advanced steadily, defeating Harry Wendelken and Dalibor Svrcina in four-set matches, building on a 2026 season that includes an Australian Open fourth-round appearance and a career-high ranking of No. 16. Sweeny, an Australian wildcard on his US Open debut, carries momentum from consecutive upsets, including a four-set victory over 13th seed Lorenzo Musetti after an earlier retirement win over Corentin Moutet. The Australian has limited prior main-draw experience at this level but benefits from strong baseline defense and recent ranking gains. Surface familiarity and Darderi’s greater consistency in extended rallies shape trader views on the outcome.
