Jan Choinski, the higher-ranked British right-hander at No. 77, enters this Winston-Salem Open first-round match on outdoor hard courts with a career-high ranking from July but limited recent hard-court success and a 3-7 main-draw record this season. He arrives after losses in Cincinnati and a recent Challenger defeat to Taro Daniel, with most of his 2026 volume on clay. Dutch left-hander Mees Rottgering, ranked around No. 418 at age 19, has built strong momentum through two straight-set qualifying wins at the venue, including dominant scores against Hunter Heck and Hugo Grenier, alongside a 16-5 hard-court record in 2026. This marks their first meeting, with Rottgering's venue familiarity and surface form contrasting Choinski's greater ATP experience.
