Alexander Blockx, the 21-year-old Belgian seeded 28th at the 2026 US Open and ranked around No. 32, enters this first-round hard-court matchup with strong recent momentum after reaching the Estoril final on clay, advancing to the Cincinnati third round with a win over Mariano Navone, and competing closely against top-10 players. Tomas Barrios Vera, the 28-year-old Chilean ranked No. 144, arrives via qualifying after three wins but carries fatigue from those matches and limited recent main-draw success. Blockx holds the edge in ranking, serve power on hard courts, and overall form, though Barrios’s experience and motivation create realistic upset potential in a Grand Slam opener where qualifiers often test seeded players.
