Iva Jovic enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite against Francesca Jones, backed by her career-high ranking of No. 14 and stronger overall hard-court results this season. The 18-year-old American advanced with a straight-sets win over Magdalena Frech after a rain-delayed opener, showing effective return play and break-point conversion. Jones, ranked No. 104, fought through qualifying and a three-set victory over Magda Linette to reach her first US Open main-draw second round, demonstrating resilience on the surface. No prior head-to-head exists, but Jovic’s greater experience in high-level events and home-crowd support position her as the stronger contender on the hard courts, though Jones’ recent form offers realistic upset potential if she maintains consistency.
