Regional elections to elect the Regional Council of Region Kalmar, Sweden are scheduled to take place on September 13, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Chair of the Regional Board of Region Kalmar County following the 2026 Swedish regional elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be formally elected by the relevant regional council as Chair of the Regional Board. Any interim or caretaker Chair will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Chair takes office by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of Sweden and Region Kalmar County; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Angelica Katsanidou holds a dominant position as the incumbent regionstyrelsens ordförande for the Social Democrats-led SCV coalition in Region Kalmar län, which controls a majority of seats in regionfullmäktige following the 2022 elections. Trader consensus reflects her continued leadership through recent budget processes, regional development plans for 2026–2028, and public statements on economic stability and healthcare priorities. Coalition partners Karin Helmersson (Center Party) and Lena Granath (Left Party) serve in supporting roles but show limited independent prospects for the top post. Opposition figures such as Malin Sjölander (Moderates) remain positioned outside the governing arrangement, with no reported shifts in mandates, coalition negotiations, or leadership challenges since the prior cycle. Upcoming regional elections in September 2026 represent the primary scheduled event that could alter the outcome.
