Alex de Minaur enters this US Open first-round matchup as the clear favorite against Italian qualifier Andrea Guerrieri, reflecting the vast gap in ranking, experience, and hard-court pedigree. The sixth seed, ranked No. 7, has reached the quarterfinals in New York the past two years and brings consistent baseline speed plus strong return game on outdoor hard courts. Guerrieri, a 27-year-old left-hander ranked No. 187, earned his main-draw debut by winning three qualifying matches but faces his first Grand Slam encounter against a top-10 opponent. Recent form shows de Minaur motivated despite some earlier summer rust, while Guerrieri arrives with momentum from a strong 2026 Challenger season. Rain has already interrupted play, with the match suspended after de Minaur claimed the opening set.
