Zizou Bergs and Botic van de Zandschulp meet in the US Open third round on hard courts in their first head-to-head. Bergs, the higher-ranked player at No. 37 and 31st seed, advanced after a four-set win over Jesper de Jong (7-5, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6(2)) following a rain-delayed first-round victory, showing resilience in long baseline rallies despite committing unforced errors. Van de Zandschulp, ranked No. 70, produced the tournament's notable upset by defeating sixth seed Alex de Minaur in straight sets (6-4, 7-5, 6-2), ending a multi-match losing streak against the Australian and reaching the third round for the third time at Flushing Meadows. Both players have logged heavy recent court time on the surface, with Bergs holding a slight edge in second-serve and return efficiency stats over the past months while van de Zandschulp leverages his 6-foot-3 frame for serve pressure and aggressive play. Fatigue from consecutive long matches and the physical demands of a best-of-five set format on outdoor hard could influence the outcome.
