Paul LePage holds a decisive lead in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District after the November 3 election, with first-choice results showing him ahead by roughly 5,400 votes and no candidate reaching a majority. The open seat, vacated by retiring Democrat Jared Golden, favored Republicans given the district’s consistent support for Donald Trump and LePage’s established name recognition from two terms as governor. Late returns from rural Republican strongholds shifted momentum in his favor. Democrat Matthew Dunlap conceded on November 5, citing the unlikelihood that ranked-choice tabulation—scheduled to begin November 9—would overcome the margin, consistent with historical patterns where most blank or write-in ballots do not transfer sufficiently. Trader consensus reflects these verified results and the low probability of reversal through recount or legal challenge.
