Ulrich Siegmund of the AfD holds the strongest position in the market for Saxony-Anhalt’s next Minister-President following the party’s 43.8 percent victory in the September 2026 Landtag election, securing 39 of 83 seats. Traders price his chances highest because he is the designated candidate and AfD leaders have signaled willingness to pursue support from other factions or individual lawmakers for a first-round majority, with fallback options in later rounds. Recent statements from Siegmund indicate openness to multiple ballots if needed, while the CDU has signaled it will exit the chamber and the BSW plans abstentions, narrowing pathways for alternatives. Low probabilities for figures such as Sven Schulze, Eva von Angern, or others reflect the AfD’s clear lead and limited cross-party momentum for rival candidacies ahead of the scheduled December vote.
Parliamentary elections to elect the Landtag of Sachsen-Anhalt are scheduled to take place on September 6, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Ministerpräsident of Sachsen-Anhalt following the specified elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially sworn in. Any interim or caretaker Chief Minister will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Chief Minister takes office by May 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Landtag of Sachsen-Anhalt; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
