Coco Gauff enters this US Open round-of-16 clash as the clear favorite against fellow American Iva Jovic, backed by her No. 4 ranking, extensive experience on Arthur Ashe Stadium, and a 1-0 head-to-head edge from their Rome encounter earlier in 2026. Gauff arrives in strong form after straight-sets wins over Zeynep Sonmez, Paula Badosa, and Cristina Bucsa, extending a nine-match winning streak while dropping just one set since Cincinnati. The 22-year-old has reached the fourth round here for the fifth straight year and holds a significant edge in big-match poise. Jovic, the 18-year-old No. 14 seed, brings momentum from a three-hour, three-set victory over Alexandra Eala in her first Ashe night session, plus deep 2026 Grand Slam runs that include a quarterfinal at the Australian Open and fourth rounds at Wimbledon and Flushing Meadows. Their prior meeting saw Jovic push Gauff to a match point on clay before falling, suggesting the teenager can compete but faces a steep challenge against Gauff’s consistency and power on hard courts.
